The Poboy Sandwich & Festival
When it comes to sandwhiches few are celebrated as the king of
sandwhiches like the "poboy". Sure the "Philly Cheesesteak" has
it's place in history but when you head south, it's all about the poboy.
There are many kinds of poboys including the most common and exotic
of foods: shrimp, oyster, catfish, soft-shell crabs as well as French fries
and ham and cheese..
Some say the poboy got it's start in 1922 New Orleans at a coffee stand
run by Bennie and Clovis Martin. They fed striking railway works
with these large sandwhiches free during a strike. The saying "here comes
another poor boy" is what they said when the workers can their way is where
the name originated.
Every year there is a poboy Festival held in New Orleans.
